Executive Team

Tom Shahnazarian – PRESIDENT
Tom Shahnazarian serves as President for Spectrum Search Partners. He is responsible for leading the firm’s new-business-development efforts and managing its day-to-day operations. He co-founded Spectrum in 2009 with his partner, Kevin Hahn.

Tom’s professional background consists of nearly three decades of experience delivering results that have exceeded his clients’ expectations. His resourcefulness, blending research, analytical, and relationship-building skills, was essential for helping several CEOs transform their industries (office products, urban renewal, and travel nursing/crisis staffing). With a diverse business background outside the executive search field, Tom’s skill set complements that of Kevin Hahn, Spectrum’s CEO. During his career, Tom has reported to three CEOs, while consulting for numerous others, and has held several sales leadership positions. These experiences make him uniquely qualified to understand the needs and challenges of senior executives seeking fresh talent. He has also worked for companies with varied ownership structures, from foreign-owned Asian and European firms to family-owned businesses and businesses in the Fortune 500, and the non-profit sector. As a result, he has a deep appreciation for cultural fit.

Most recently, Tom collaborated with Kevin Hahn for three years at Tri-Worth Solutions, a regional executive search firm headquartered in Chicago, where he helped develop the firm’s Private Equity practice and strengthened their Sales and Marketing practice.

Previously, Tom served as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for FASTAFF, the largest unit of US Nursing Corporation, a $200 million business that he helped sell to a private equity firm. The firm pioneered the concept of crisis staffing within the travel nursing business and was renowned for the level of talent they provided for their clients.

Tom’s career includes nine years with Corporate Express (acquired by Staples in 2008), the world’s largest B2B distributor of office products. There he created the firm’s corporate and business development functions working under CE’s founder and CEO. In just six years, the firm’s sales grew 100-fold (from $45 million to $4.5 billion) through a highly successful acquisition and integration program that Tom helped develop and execute. When CE was sold to Buhrmann in 2000, Tom led the integration of the national/strategic accounts organization and helped drive a profitable turnaround that increased sales 50 percent in less than three years, to $1.5 billion. At the time of his departure, CE was doing business with 92 percent of the Fortune 500.

Tom spent the first decade of his career on the East Coast, where he grew up. He worked four years for TIAA-CREF in their Real Estate Investment division, managing a loan portfolio of $150 million for the largest pension fund in the world. He then joined the F.D. Rich Company, the largest privately held company in Connecticut at the time, and led the sales, marketing, and project management efforts for several of their real estate and other investment properties. A number of these assignments required selling to the C level of major corporations. His sales efforts generated more than $15 million in new business.

Tom earned a BA degree in Economics from Bucknell University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut’s Graduate School of Business. He has lectured at the business school level on the topics of Sales and Marketing, Finance, and Mergers and Acquisitions at Columbia University and the University of Denver. He has been an active fundraiser for the University of Colorado’s Health Sciences Center and is involved with several non-profit organizations whose missions are to find a cure for lung cancer and promote the prevention of heart and lung disease.
